Q&A Nicola Taylor

Nicola Taylor

What is your practice? Materials? Processes?

I am a fine art photographer. My main body of walk is called “Tales from the Moors Country” and it’s a collection of narrative images, inspired by folklore and fairy tales. My images are all self portraits, taken with a remote control and they often combine many different photographs, stitched together in the computer to create a world that doesn’t exist in reality.

What 5 words best describe your work?

Literary, Ethereal, Feminine, Otherwordly, Mysterious

Do you have any design heroes?

Tim Walker, Sally Mann, Kay Nielsen, Arthur Rackham, all the Pre-Raphaelites.

Where is your studio?

I’m based in the North Yorkshire Moors

Describe in 10 words a typical day in your studio

Photoshop practice, swearing, cup of tea, writing, emails, emails, emails

Are you working on anything unusual at the moment? Commissions? New work?

I’m always working on pushing my Photoshop skills further. My ambitions and my imagination always run ahead of my abilities so I need to keep learning so that I can create more difficult composites and satisfy those creative drives.

Did you exhibit or visit last years SAT?

No. I had not heard about the event until earlier this year.

What venue are you exhibiting at on the trail?

I’m exhibiting at Fresh Filling

Tell us something we don’t know

Five years ago I was a very miserable stockbroker, working in the City of London. It’s a very different life these days!
