Q&A Jane Mitchell

Jane Mitchell

What is your practice ? Materials, processes?

My original designs are a form of hot press printing, a technique I have developed myself. The designs are then printed onto silk for scarves and dresses or canvas for 2D work.

5 words that describe my work.
Colourful, textured, innovative, unsubtle, wearable.

Do you have any design heroes?
I get my designs from natural forms and my travels but as a serious gardener( I have opened my garden to the public several times) I get a lot of my colour mixes from gardens . I love the work of
Mary Katrantzou.

Where is your studio?

In my garden.

Describe in 10 words a typical day in your studio.

Playing around with colour, texture and images to formulate my designs. I have spent the last few months on my 3 new scarf/ dress designs. There are a few wedding outfits being made as we speak.

Did you exhibit or visit last years SAT?

I did not exhibit last year.

What venue are you exhibiting at on the trail?

I will be at Sarah Driffill’s home.

Tell us something we don’t know

I have developed my design technique using a machine that has been obsolete for over 20 years.
It is old and crotchety but still produces amazing outcomes.

Thank you Jane!
